For many high school students, choosing a career path can feel overwhelming. But for Joshua Moore, a Boiling Springs High School senior and Level III Computer Networking (CNET) student, the direction was obvious from the moment he watched his father work in the IT field. That early spark of interest eventually led him to the CNET program at CPACTC, and ultimately to a hands-on Co-Op Capstone position repairing devices for local schools with GDC IT Solutions.
Joshua’s decision to attend CPACTC was shaped by both practicality and long-term goals. He saw the opportunity to earn industry certifications, giving him a competitive advantage before even graduating high school. His interest in technology made the CNET program an obvious choice, especially after growing up watching his father work in the IT field. That early exposure helped define his career ambitions and set him on a clear path.
After spending the summer working at GDC IT Solutions, he wanted to continue gaining experience, which led him to pursue a Co-Op Capstone placement. GDC IT Solutions, known for providing comprehensive technology support and device repair services to schools and organizations across the region, offered the perfect environment for him to gain real-world experience.
In his current position as an IT Bench Technician, he plays a key role in supporting the technology needs of local school districts and several online schools. His daily work ranges from repairing laptops to troubleshooting Chromebooks…devices he finds particularly challenging. Even so, he finds the job deeply rewarding, especially when he is able to help someone get their device back up and running.
This year as a Co-Op Capstone student-learner, he hopes to strengthen his résumé and continue building the skills that will support his future career. After graduation, he plans to remain with GDC IT Solutions and continue developing professionally within the company. For Level 2 students considering co-op, he emphasizes the importance of maintaining good attendance. It is a reminder that reliability is just as important as technical skill in the workplace.
Joshua’s journey highlights how early interests, hands-on learning, and real-world experience can come together to create a strong foundation for future success.
