At CPACTC, students are given the opportunity to explore hands-on career pathways that lead to real-world experiences and invaluable skills. Among these students is Rylan Brow, whose journey into the HVAC/R field exemplifies the transformative power of career and technical education and co-op opportunities.

For Rylan, a Level 3 Student from Cumberland Valley High School, attending CPACTC was a conscious choice driven by a desire to engage in practical, hands-on learning experiences. "It was a good way for me to work with my hands rather than sitting in a classroom all day," he explains.

Intrigued by the prospect of working on a variety of projects every day, Rylan was drawn to HVAC/R as a career path. "I thought it was interesting the way you can work on different things every day," he shares. This curiosity and eagerness to learn propelled him towards participating in co-op capstone, eager to gain firsthand experience in the field.

Choosing to work at FM Berkheimer provided Rylan with a gateway into the world of work. "It was a great opportunity to get my feet wet and start working for a local reputable HVAC/R company," he explains. As part of an install crew, he tackles a variety of projects, from AC installations to boiler setups, enriching his skills and knowledge with each task.

While the work at FM Berkheimer presents its challenges, Rylan finds immense satisfaction in the experiences gained and the camaraderie among colleagues. "The experiences I get from working there are what I enjoy, and also the people that I get to work," he reflects.

As Rylan continues his co-op journey, he sets his sights on further growth and learning. "I hope to gain the experience of working out in the field and expand my knowledge beyond what I learn in the classroom," he states. His aspirations extend beyond graduation, with plans to pursue an Associate's degree in HVAC/R at Penn College of Technology.

For Level 2 students considering co-op opportunities, Rylan offers valuable advice based on his own experiences. "My advice is to get out and work as soon as possible." You will gain more experience and knowledge based on what you learned in school."

Rylan’s journey into the HVAC/R field exemplifies the spirit of exploration and dedication fostered at CPACTC. As he navigates through his co-op experience, he embodies the ethos of hands-on learning and professional growth. With his eyes set on a future filled with possibilities, he serves as an inspiration to his peers and a testament to the transformative power of career and technical education.
